A total of 38 Marshalltown High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society during a ceremony held on April 20 at the MHS/Community Auditorium.
Students inducted included Michelle Ankrum, Jerilyn Cabrera Alviz, Bridget Carroll, Whitney Canaday, Aspen Chadderdon, Nicolas Cooper, Spencer Dempewolf, James Drummer, Mary Drummer, Leah Edel, Immaculate Edwin, Guadalupe Estrada, Denali Gardner, Reese Hageman, Raechel Hannam, Frank Iole, Sydney Johnson, Kara Kacmarynski, Trevor Lewis, Hannah Lindgren, Laura Lopez, Ashley Macbeth, Mai Mome, Sydney Mann, Nalicka Matthew, Ryan McDaniel, McKaylee Palmer, Eh Tha Dah Paw, Isabella Pedersen, Allison Reeder, Hannah Shirar, Tyler Smith, Tabitha Steffensen, Nicholas Summers, Morgan Van Staalduine, Sydnie Wohlert, Elliot Weidenaar and Peyton Williams.
David Hicks, director of Youth and Shelter Services of Marshall County, was the keynote speaker at the event. Hicks told the students not to be afraid to be leaders now. “You are the future leaders- but I don’t want you to wait – I want you to act now,” Hicks said.
NHS president Grant Thimesch also gave an address to the students during the ceremony. Guidelines for membership into the National Honor Society are based on four main areas – scholarship, leadership, character and service.
