Hermanson’s third place finish came against a field of 55 spelling bee champions from eastern Iowa and western Illinois.  Hermanson won Miller’s spelling bee on January 12 which qualified her for regionals.

The winner of the regional bee was Daniel Healy of Port Byron, Illinois who will receive an all expense paid trip to the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this spring.

The regional event was sponsored by the Dispatch-Argus, which had a story on the contest at this link.
