Army Strong Challenge stops by MHS

The Army Strong Challenge visited Marshalltown High School Tuesday, engaging physical education students in a program promoting healthy lifestyle and academics.

Students had the opportunity to participate in a five-part challenge with physical and academic components. The physical portion consisted of jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups and shuttle runs. After a timed completion at each station teams were asked multiple-choice questions similar to those on the ACT and PSAT.

Each rep in the physical events earned one point, while each correct answer on the academic portion earned 10 points.

The top two teams in each P.E. class received Army Strong Challenge t-shirts and the top three teams in the whole school received gold, silver and bronze medals. MHS also received a participation banner. Once the challenge is finished at other schools the top five schools will receive another banner and a trophy.

The Army Strong Challenge is visiting 23 high schools in eight states during 2012.
